Soft Matter - Theoretical and Industrial Challenges Workshop, 7th-9th September 2016
Three day workshop on Soft Matter, which will take place at the Isaac Newton Institute, Cambridge.
This event aims to highlight developments in theoretical physics and mathematical frameworks for the modelling and simulation of soft matter systems, with particular emphasis on how these models can inform industrial processes, materials, and design. It is also a celebration of the highly influential and ground-breaking work of the late Sir Sam Edwards who played a pivotal role in bringing advances in the physical sciences to bear on major industrial problems.
Building on the foundations laid by Sir Sam Edwards, talks will provide details on leading-edge advances and insights into soft matter systems and their applications. Scientific topics will include both traditional and novel polymeric materials; powders and jammed materials; and interfacial soft matter such as emulsions and colloidal gels. Current and potential application areas for these systems include health, energy and environment, consumer goods, advanced materials, and foods. This event will serve both business and academia via industrial showcasing of technology challenges and the chance for leading researchers to interact with industry.

The programme will include a poster exhibition and drinks reception on Wednesday 7th and on Thursday 8th there will be a Memorial Event for Sir Sam Edwards, followed by a workshop dinner at Gonville & Caius College.
Registration: It is understood that some participants may not be able to attend all three days. Therefore, please indicate under ‘additional information’ on the web page registration form which days you are able to attend. There is a nominal registration fee to cover the cost of refreshments and materials and en-suite accommodation is available locally at a cost of £75.00 per night.
