Description
Black and Green II
Tools for Sustainable Formulations
Formulation Science and Technology Group co-hosted by Intelligent Formulation
Wednesday 10th November 2010
at the National Science Learning Centre, University of York, UK
The key challenge for formulation science over the next decades will be the accelerating change from largely oil based and energy intensive ingredients to mainly sustainable ingredients, the change from black to green. This will require new skills and approaches from all those involved in formulation science. In order to help the formulation science community address this challenge, the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Formulation Science and Technology Group has put together a series of conferences showcasing the challenges, the new approaches and the successes of formulation science, under the title of “Black and Green”. These will be an essential ingredient in the redirection of formulation science from the black to the green.
Following on from the successful first meeting which set the scene with a look at how a diverse selection of industries are approaching sustainable formulation, this meeting highlights some of the tools being used across industries to achieve and measure sustainability. Once again the speakers focus on a diverse range of industries, showing how the themes cross normal boundaries. This meeting also includes a short workshop, hosted by Intelligent Formulation, which highlights the use of a number of tools by example and allows participants to see how these tools will apply to their own industry.
Attendance at the meeting is essential for all formulation scientists, as all now work in a climate where increasing concerns over environmental Carbon Footprints and the sustainability of sourcing of raw materials, means that old recipes no longer work and new designs are needed, while still achieving stability and performance.
Speakers have been drawn from a both industry and academia, in order to both demonstrate state of the art tool sets and show practical application of tools in an industrial context. A wide range of industries and technologies are represented at the meeting making it applicable to sectors from materials science to building products, cosmetics, food science, detergents, oil and lubricants, agrochemicals, material and mineral processing industries and packaging technologists.
More Details to Follow When Available 1st Week in August and abstracts end of August.
